close-up: Tactile Compass
The Tactile Compass is a repurposed Civil War-era drill press connected to a plywood panel with 24 spokes mounted on it, the arms holding 140 paint brushes or 140 feather dusters, depending on whether the installation is inside or outside. The person cranking the Compass cannot see the person enjoying the fruits of their labor. The two of them need to talk about it. .
Projects that brought feather dusters to the wind in the Black Rock Desert were halted when I was struck by a bolt of common sense. It was a rare sensation.
