the Committee for Public Safety

The Committee for Public Safety was a group of perhaps fifty artists who produced a couple of hundred events between 1990-1998. A show might be a poetry reading or performance or music by locals or visitors. It might be a radio event. Shows might be in coffee shops, bars, nightclubs, or theaters. There was a good amount of combining art forms. Doug Jablin, a KUNV DJ and the CPS Executive Producer, included video as a regular element within shows. It meant that nearly all the CPS events were recorded and are now available for viewing online.

There were no dues or membership cards. In the time-honored tradition, if someone suggested a way to improve our work, they were immediately offered executive authority to do that.
