Enigma Garden Cafe Flyers
Opened by Julie Brewer in 1993, at 914 1/2 S. 4th Street, Enigma and its charming garden was an anomaly in a downtown that was otherwise deserted after dark. Off of Fremont there were very few bad guys because there was no one to rob. The coffeeshop and performance space benefitted from the movement of a new art, music, and poetry community away from Maryland Parkway and the university district toward what might become a more stable haven for the arts. In a while there were public events at Enigma five or six nights a week. Las Vegas was developing an arts district. Later operated by Lenadams Dorris, Enigma closed in 2000.
